The Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce Manchester-by-the-Sea Division is pleased to announce this year’s recipient of the 2013 Small Business Award, John Donovan of Manchester Athletic Club, who will be honored at a complimentary reception on Thursday, June 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Landing at 7 Central, 7 Central Street, Manchester.
Now celebrating its 40th anniversary in Cape Ann, the Manchester Athletic Club (MAC) continues to grow and serve its members and the community in many ways. John Donovan, creator of nearly a dozen software start-ups and an accomplished pilot as well, has been the owner of the MAC for more than a decade. “It is John’s passion about fitness that led him to acquire the MAC and expand its operations and services,” said John Theo, Donovan’s longtime friend and business partner. “John also generously gives back to community in countless ways, including donations of produce from his organic farm in Essex to the Open Door, scholarships, gifts of conservation land, and even the hayrides at Santa’s Jingle Bell Walk for the children of Manchester last December.”
Friends, family members, and colleagues of all small business honorees are invited and encouraged to attend the 32nd Annual Cape Ann Small Business Week Luncheon on Friday, June 7, at 11:30 am at the Castle Manor Inn, 141 Essex Avenue, Gloucester. Keynote speaker for this luncheon will be Robert Nelson, Director of the Small Business Administration’s Massachusetts District Office, on the importance of small business in sustaining the economic recovery. Tickets for the luncheon are available to members for $35 in advance or $40 week/day of and $50 for future members.
