With a month to go in its campaign, the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce is making a final push to reach its goal of creating a special license plate commemorating Cape Ann. The Chamber needs 750 prepaid applications in order for the Registry of Motor Vehicles to manufacture and issue the special plate, and the group is closing in on 650 completed applications, said Peter Webber, chamber senior vice president. The plate’s design features an iconic image from each of the four Cape Ann communities: Gloucester (Fisherman at the Wheel), Essex (a schooner in full sail), Rockport (Motif No. 1), and Manchester-by-the-Sea (rotunda at Tucks Point). Proceeds from the $40 special plate fee go to the Cape Ann Community Foundation, a nonprofit that supports regional promotion, economic development, and education. Applications may be found online at capeannchamber.com.
