November CACC Update from Susan & Ken
October was an incredibly busy month for the Chamber and Cape Ann! We kicked it off with our BIG $25K Game, another sold out event held for the first time at the Elks We gave away $25,000 in cash – great fun and congratulations to all of the winners! Then it was on to an incredible Businesswomen’s Luncheon, featuring local realtor Karen Hanson, Licensed Partner of Engel and Volkers. Karen’s presentation was funny, poignant and uplifting. October started out with Cape Ann Plein Air 2021, the largest outdoor painting competition in New England and in the top five in the nation. Susan is the Executive Director and Ken is the Treasurer – the event broke all records for art sales and participation. There was community-wide collaboration and support from all 5 Cape Ann towns.
The Chamber hosted four Gloucester Electoral Candidate Forums, including School Committee, City Council At-Large and Ward 2, and Mayoral races. We are already well into our 2022 publications cycle (see the advertising contracts herein) and co-hosted with Discover Gloucester a well-attended and informative Tourism Collaborative where we presented an annual seasonal comparison of the past few years.
Our major upcoming event is our largest fundraiser, the 34th Annual Love Cape Ann Fundraising Auction. We will have amazing items for Live, Silent and Online bidding, ranging from exotic and local travel experiences, sports tickets, and many, many fun experiences and gift items graciously donated from local businesses. In November we have also planned our important education and economic meetings with our state and local elected officials, education and business leaders to discuss opportunities and challenges affecting our Cape Ann region.
And yes, the Holiday season is upon us, and we are well along in planning for Santa’s arrival and associated Small Business promotion in all five of our Cape Ann communities, beginning with Shop Small Saturday, the day after Black Friday. The GCACC is again a Small Business Neighborhood Champion and distribution point for Small Business promotional items.
