Interim Director’s & President’s Update – September 2025

September is here, and as we turn the page from summer to fall, we want to take a moment to
look back on a very full August in Greater Cape Ann—and share what’s on the horizon for an
equally busy September.

We began the month with our second Gloucester Block Party on Friday, August 9. It was
another incredible night downtown—Main Street was filled with music, performers, food,
and families enjoying one of the best traditions of summer. Unfortunately, the season’s
final Block Party, scheduled for Friday, August 29, had to be canceled due to rain. While it
was disappointing to miss out on one last summer evening downtown, the two block
parties we did host this year once again proved how impactful these events are for our
community. We are already looking forward to bringing them back next summer, even
bigger and better.

The following weekend brought the 44th Annual Waterfront Festival at Stage Fort Park. For
two days, the park was filled with artists, crafters, food vendors, and live entertainment.
Thousands of visitors strolled the grounds, many for the very first time, and vendors shared
how much they enjoy returning year after year. This festival is one of our largest
undertakings, and once again it was a beautiful showcase of Cape Ann at its finest.

In Ipswich, we wrapped up another successful season of Downtown Tuesdays. Each week
brought live music, outdoor dining, and a chance for the community to gather in the heart
of town. This simple but meaningful tradition has quickly become a highlight of summer on
the North Shore. The final weeks in August were especially well attended, and we’re so
grateful to our sponsors and partners who make it possible.

Mid-month, we also had the pleasure of hosting Business After Hours at Floriana in Ipswich
(formerly the Hellenic Center). Members were able to explore the beautiful venue, enjoy
light bites, and connect with one another in a warm and welcoming setting. Events like this
remind us how valuable it is to step away from our day-to-day routines and spend time
strengthening connections with fellow members and friends.

Labor Day weekend brought with it one of the most cherished traditions on Cape Ann—the
Gloucester Schooner Festival. The harbor was a stunning sight, filled with sails and history,
as schooners old and new made their way into port. Thousands of residents and visitors
lined the waterfront to take in the parades, races, and celebrations of our maritime
heritage. It was a weekend that truly captured the spirit of Gloucester.

Looking ahead, September promises to be one of our busiest months yet. We’ll be
celebrating several ribbon cuttings across the region, each one marking the growth and
success of our local business community. These ceremonies are a wonderful reminder of
the energy and entrepreneurship thriving here in Greater Cape Ann.

On Thursday, September 11, we are proud to host a Gloucester Mayoral Candidate Debate
at Gloucester High School. With three strong candidates running, this is a vital opportunity
for residents and business leaders to hear directly from those seeking to lead the city.
Hosting forums like this is an important part of the Chamber’s mission to inform and
engage our community in issues that impact both business and civic life.

That same morning, we’ll also hold a seminar on bookkeeping and taxes—providing small
business owners with practical tools to stay organized and financially prepared.
Educational programs like this are part of how we support our members’ day-to-day
success, and we’re excited to continue offering them throughout the year.

On Saturday, September 13, the 3rd Annual Blackburn Brewfest returns to Stage Fort Park.
This event has quickly become a fall favorite, bringing together craft breweries from across
the region, along with food trucks and live music, in one of the most beautiful settings on
the North Shore. It’s always a fun afternoon for attendees and a chance to showcase
Gloucester as a destination for visitors.

On Wednesday, September 17, we’ll gather for a very special Business After Hours aboard
the Schooner Adventure. Space is limited for this unique networking opportunity, so
members are encouraged to reserve early. It promises to be an unforgettable evening—
combining history, community, and the stunning backdrop of Gloucester Harbor.
Finally, we’ll close out the month with our $20K Game Night at The Cut on Thursday,
September 25. This is one of our signature fundraisers, and it always brings together a lively
crowd for an exciting evening. The top prize is $10,000, with additional prizes up for grabs—
