With a historic June now behind us, we are in final planning mode for our major summertime events. A quick look back at last month – the first week of June was our celebration of Small Business, the economic backbone of our Cape Ann region. Now in our 39th year,
Cape Ann’s Small Business Persons of the Year were each saluted individually at evening receptions in their respective communities, and then honored as a group at the Small Business Week Awards Luncheon at Castle Manor Inn. We also presented awards to our six college scholarship recipients. June also saw the completion of the most successful membership drive in our organization’s history, resulting in 150 new members, putting us over the millennial mark, and making us the fifth largest chamber in the Commonwealth. We welcomed many of our new members at a reception at the Harbor Room, and look forward to working with you all. Also in June we hosted a well-attended breakfast with Governor Baker, who spoke about issues and solutions key to the Commonwealth and our region including housing, transportation and opioids.
Looking forward, it is summertime events extravaganzas! Beginning with a BIG five-chamber Business After Hours networking event at Misselwood in Beverly on July 10, and then on to the first of three Gloucester Block Parties on July 13. We are again partnering with the city, as we invite everyone to celebrate summer while shopping, dancing and strolling along Main Street with live bands, street performers and delicious eats. Then our major fundraiser – the Love Cape Ann Fundraising Auction – is the following week
on July 18 at the Beauport Hotel. We have incredible travel experiences, art, vacations, local adventures and a host of wonderful items. In August we lead several large community events beginning in Manchester with Festival by the Sea on the 3rd, featuring over 100 artisans, great music and food. The following weekend is Block Party #2 and the third weekend is Waterfront Festival, both Saturday and Sunday, featuring lobsters and beer again on Saturday. We are also working with The River 92.5 on the largest concert of the summer, the Riverfest Seaside at Stage Fort Park on August 24. And we end the summer with the finale of our 3rd Block Party on Friday, August 30, to coincide with the now iconic Schooner Festival.
More on the above can be seen / heard on our July Love Cape Ann video podcast.
