Who are you and what is your business?
My name is Amy Connors. I have been a real estate lawyer for almost 19 years! I just opened an office at 189 Main St., Gloucester— in the amazing Wheelhouse Collaborative space. I am with the firm Gilmore & Gilmore, LLC, we also have locations in Newburyport, Danvers, and Boston. The firm has been in existence for over fifty years. We help with real estate matters, estate planning, and litigation but we can also help point you in the direction of another trusted lawyer if you need a referral.
Please provide a brief description of your company
We are a small local firm with exceptional customer service and a very knowledgeable staff! We represent buyers, sellers, developers, and landlords in both residential and commercial transactions. We also help clients with estate planning, wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and probate matters.
What inspired you to start your business and what keeps you going? (stories, inspirations, skills, etc.)
As a young girl, I aspired to be either a writer for Saturday Night Live or a Lawyer! I always loved “proving my point” and helping people. I was in mock trial in high school and I really loved it and was always fascinated with the law and the political system. In law school, I never envisioned myself working for a giant law firm. If you know me, you will understand that energy is not aligned with the kind of lawyer or person I am. I have a unique caring and thoughtful approach to all things in life, especially being a lawyer.
What aspect of your business are you most passionate about? (history, conversation pieces, etc.)
I LOVE helping people navigate the legal process. Buying and selling real estate is fraught with emotions and stress! We help folks through that with compassionate and competent counsel. I also love networking, marketing, and connecting with people in and around my community.
Is there something unique about your business that you’d like to share that most people wouldn’t know about?
I do not know many lawyers who are also reiki masters, certified yoga teachers, and astrology enthusiasts. I think that really sets me apart from most lawyers I know.
What sets your business apart from other similar businesses? (defining qualities, practices or approaches)
I am approachable and experienced. People have told me they love my communication style and my responsiveness. Also, I truly care about my clients. In fact, I took a Bodhisattva Vow with monks in 2015. This is a vow to live your life in the service of others; I think that when you get to know me, that becomes clear. I put a lot of care into everything that I do.
Do you have a goal you want your business to achieve in the next one, 5 or 10 years?
It would be great to purchase a building in Gloucester within the next five years. This community is home for me, and I would love to watch this legal practice continue to flourish.
Why do you love the Greater Cape Ann region and doing business locally?
I have moved over 55 times in my life. Yes, you read that correctly. Cape Ann is the first place that has ever really felt like HOME to me. I love living here, sharing this amazing place with others, and lifting and supporting the people in this community.
As someone doing business in this area, how has or how can the Chamber help your business?
I have made some incredible friendships through my connection with the Chamber! The events are so fun and well thought out. We always come together with the energy of supporting one another and that is something I think we all need.
