The Cape Ann YMCA recently launched Corner Stone, a new innovative program to support cancer survivors and their families. This first-of-its-kind initiative provides new health and fitness resources, special programming and ongoing support in a non- clinical environment at no cost to participants.
Corner Stone participants have access to all seven YMCA of the North Shore locations including Gloucester, Beverly, Haverhill, Ipswich, Marblehead, Salem and Plaistow NH. Families can receive a complimentary week of summer camp for their children, and free, onsite drop-in babysitting for parents who need childcare while they are in treatment.
More than a million Americans are diagnosed with cancer each year, this diagnosis is devastating. Core to the Y’s mission is meeting the needs of the community while exploring new ways to help people in need. Corner Stone is designed to meet cancer patients where they are in their prognosis and build a circle of support around them. It aims to provide essential resources for them and and their families as they navigate their new path to wellness.
For more than 100 years, the Y has been a community resource steeped in compassion and service to others, offering a wide variety of crucial health, wellness, and education programming. Corner Stone is an extension of that, providing a welcoming environment where cancer patients can access the support they need at a very difficult time. This is a new and innovative way the Y can continue to deliver its mission to the communities it serves. It will benefit so many adults, children and families in Cape Ann.
