How many years have you been in business as a solopreneur and a Chamber Member? Less than 1 year

Please provide a brief description of what your business is all about. Bridge Educational Engineering (BEE) is a consulting firm that trains and coaches school and organization leadership to develop and implement a range of mental health supports, including organization-wide social and emotional learning practices, curriculum, and programs.  We customize professional development trainings and supportive workshops to meet unique school and organizational community strengths, goals, and values.

What enticed you to start a solopreneur business? I love my work strengthening schools and teams, and after 15 years of commuting into Boston from Cape Ann, it excited me to think about doing this work locally – really understand local strengths, challenges, and resources and support my local neighbors and communities.

What is “the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” of working on your own?

The “good”: My work involves closely partnering with lots of people and teams, so it doesn’t feel like I’m on my own.
The “bad and ugly”: I’m pretty sure that eating on my own every day is destroying my table manners!

 Why are you a Chamber member? Joining the GCA Chamber was one of the first things I did as a new business owner. My fellow members are reliable service providers, critical sources of information, potential collaborators, and brilliant supporters.

What advice would you give others looking to take the leap into “solopreneurship?” Find 1-2 trusted people who energize you and get on their calendar once/month. When you meet, share your victories first; there’s always something going well. Then, share a real challenge and workshop solutions without judgment or defense.

Where do you see your business going in the future? This question made my heart flutter. I trust this business will grow to reach schools and organizations on a global scale. I’m so glad it’s rooted and blossoming here on Cape Ann.
