Who are you and what is your business?
Hey there! I’m Joana Lima, co-founder of Sassy Square Marketing. Alongside my partner Pedro, we inject a little sass and a lot of boldness into the marketing world right from our office on Main St in Gloucester. We’ve been marketing and branding businesses for more than half of our lives, it’s all we see ourselves doing.
Please provide a brief description of your company.
Sassy Square Marketing shines a spotlight on professionals who know that visibility is key to success because you can have the best product or service, but it won’t sell if no one knows it exists. Our services range from video production, social media marketing, website design, paid ads, product and real-estate photography, and printed materials such as brochures, business cards, and flyers.
What inspired you to start your business and what keeps you going?
We want you to see Sassy Marketing as that tech-savvy favorite niece or nephew who swoops in to save the day. You know the one: they make setting up Wi-Fi or explaining the latest apps look like child’s play to their amazed aunts and uncles. We wanted to bring that same ease and wow factor to digital marketing. Our drive? It’s seeing the relief and joy on our clients’ faces when we demystify digital marketing for them and deliver results that work. It’s about being the family hero, every day, for every client.
What aspect of your business are you most passionate about?
We love learning about different industries through our clients. This not only makes us better marketers but also well-rounded people, prepared for many situations and easy to have a conversation with on various topics.
Is there something unique about your business that you’d like to share that most people wouldn’t know about?
Our office is haunted by the ghost of past marketers who dared to be boring—just kidding! But in all seriousness, I want you to know that Sassy is a female-led business, founded by a first-generation immigrant from Brazil who knows the value of hustle.
What sets your business apart from other similar businesses?
We blend the best of both worlds. While we love modern tech, we believe in the timeless appeal of “old-school customer service”. Believe me, you haven’t met a millennial who enjoys a phone call as much as I do, but I’ll happily text and email if that’s what you prefer.
Do you have a goal you want the business to achieve in the next one, 5 or 10 years?
To significantly reduce the number of “for rent” signs on commercial properties, not just in our community but across the country. We’re committed to helping existing businesses thrive and serving as a trusted partner for new entrepreneurs, by providing the essential marketing tools and strategies they need to succeed.
Why do you love the Greater Cape Ann region and doing business locally?
I’ve lived in 7 other places in Massachusetts, but Greater Cape Ann stands out. The community’s strong preference for shopping small has made my own passion for local commerce grow. Here, doing business feels like being part of a family that celebrates every win and supports through every challenge.
As someone doing business in this area, how has or how can the Chamber help your business?
This is my first experience with any chamber, and it’s been very positive. The in-person events have been a fantastic resource, providing networking opportunities that have expanded our client base and strengthened our local connections. I feel as though the chamber has been Sassy’s cheerleader, and I have become one for the chamber, encouraging everyone to join.
