What inspired you to start your business and what keeps you going?
Tanya’s Shabby Chic Furniture restoration business, Twin’s Chic, began with pieces she needed in her own home. Now, encouraged by her friends’ enthusiasm for her craft, Tanya offers her work for sale via the Internet and her service to restore your own furniture you can bring to her shop. Since early childhood, Tanya was inspired by the wonderful magic of paints and their power to make time-worn things lovely again. She and her twin sister, Natasha, helped their father with any homeowner projects around their house in Ukraine. Combining her personal touch with magnificent colors, Tanya brings her chalk painting dreams to reality. She is an expert in multiple chalk painting techniques that she learned from painting in the Ukraine, and she has further developed the process of working with chalk paint for her furniture and home accessories restoration business. Tanya now combines her knowledge and the art of shabby chic with unique upholstery techniques. ‘Twin’s Chic” is so named not only because of the inspiration given her by her twin sister, but also because of the support of her husband, Greg, who also happens to be a twin. Greg has his own line of reclaimed wood furniture which they both collected from historical buildings in the North Shore.
What aspect of your business are you most passionate about?
Finding a piece of furniture that is personal to you is not an easy task. Although there are many different choices and styles of nice-looking furniture out there, it is rare to see anything close to what you had in mind. At Twin’s Chic, we are passionate about our furniture. Each piece is lovingly designed and recreated, adding the unique touches, colors, paint techniques and attention to. details that you will never see in a factory-made piece, After all, you are unique and one of a kind … why should’t your furniture be? We also help people to salvage their own sentimental pieces by offering service of restoration and refurbishing their furniture with the techniques and designs we offer.
Is there something unique about your business that you’d like to share that most people wouldn’t know about?
Both of us are artists. Greg has his bachelor’s degree in fine art from Montserrat College of Art. Tanya grew up in the family of generations of artists and gardeners in Ukraine. We work personally with each customer whether furnishing a room, a whole house or simply fixing a broken chair. We provide custom-built furniture from reclaimed wood collected from historical buildings in the North Shore. Our collection is unique and one of a kind. Greg incorporates his artist and carpenter skills and offered superior craftsmanship building wooden pieces.
What sets your business apart from other similar businesses?
Our prices are very affordable. We deal with large array of furniture repairs, provide interior design consultations and design your antiques in unique shabby chic style. We combine all aspects of refurbishing such as painting, glaring, upholstery, updating, fixing and building, bringing it up to date look. We also carry a large selection of fabrics from Charlotte fabrics and offer people the convenience of shopping for their fabric in person to accommodate any one’s taste.
Do you have a goal you want the business to achieve in the next one, 5, or 10 years?
Yes, we would like to continue offering our services, loving what we do, bringing people joy. We also want our reputation to be known to people, so they come to us without hesitation.
Why do you love the Greater Cape Ann region and doing business locally?
Because this area has so much rich in history and furniture is a part of this history, that makes our product unique and one of a kind.
As someone doing business in this area, how has or how can the Chamber help your business?
The Chamber of Commerce is informed of what is going on in the North shore area. Keeping our business in mind so they can refer us for furnishing or updating offices, restaurants, museums, and such, and for our furniture services
