Who are you and what is your business?
Owner-artists Vanessa Michalak and Rebecca Anne Nagle recently celebrated the grand opening of M/N Contemporary Art Gallery in the heart of Gloucester MA at 20 Pleasant Street.
Please provide a brief description of your company.
Vanessa and Rebecca look forward to presenting innovative work of talented 2D, 3D and Performance artists this season in six themed upcoming shows.
What inspired you to start your business and what keeps you going?
Taking in the rich history of artists who have used Gloucester as inspiration for their paintings, we wanted to find a space to continue that legacy with our own work and grow the contemporary art market in the city of Gloucester.
What aspect of your business are you most passionate about?
We enjoy supporting local talent as well as bringing talent from outside the Cape Ann area. We want to be a rising tide for contemporary art in this seaside locale.
Is there something unique about your business that you’d like to share that most people wouldn’t know about?
Occasionally one can find one of us painting or working in the gallery to give the audience a full artistic experience.
What sets your business apart from other similar businesses?
The variety of mediums presented in the gallery throughout the season gives the audience exposure to art in many forms. We always welcome dialogue and curiosity.
Do you have a goal you want the business to achieve in the next one, 5 or 10 years?
The goal for the gallery is to highlight different artistic points of view and present beautiful work over the next few years.
Why do you love the Greater Cape Ann region and doing business locally?
Cape Ann is rich in community and history. It’s a joy to see the locals come in to view the art as well as introducing visitors to the charm of Cape Ann and that there is more than just maritime painting on the island. It has the quintessential New England appeal.
As someone doing business in this area, how has or how can the Chamber help your business?
Being new to the Chamber, this Spotlight opportunity is fruitful. We hope the Chamber can create a
gallery guide and assist in supporting the arts on Cape Ann through marketing, exposure, and funding.
