Who are you and what is your business?
My name is Christina Lehmann and I’m the General Manager of The Rockport House at 17 Pleasant Street in Rockport, Massachusetts.
Please provide a brief description of your company.
We’re a small luxury boutique hotel, located just steps away from beautiful downtown Rockport. We have 17 hotel rooms (king or queen bed) and one 3-bedroom cottage on our property.
What inspired you to start your business, and what keeps you going?
A love of hospitality, travel, and art inspired us to open The Rockport House.
What aspect of your business are you most passionate about? (history, conversation pieces, etc.)
Our guests, of course! Every detail of what we do is designed to make our guests feel welcomed and relaxed.
Is there something unique about your business that you’d like to share that most people wouldn’t know about?
We put great thought and care into retaining the old charm and aesthetics of our Victorian house when we fully renovated it. There are many design and architectural features that have been beautifully restored such as the tin ceiling in the parlor and the stairway baniesters. Each of our rooms has its own style and character.
What sets your business apart from other similar businesses?
I think we offer a modern experience in the sense that we have free WiFi and a remote concierge service on call 24/7. We have brand new top of the line mattresses and linens and beautiful custom wall paper. We’re a modern hotel but I think we still feel warm and inviting.
Do you have a goal you want the business to achieve in the next one, 5, or 10 years?
We hope to get to know our community better. Rockport and Cape Ann have so many amazing small businesses and community initiatives we hope to support and be part of. Also, we hope to spread the word about how gorgeous Cape Ann is and all it has to offer. And lastly we hope to convince people to visit Rockport in the winter when it’s peaceful and quiet!
Why do you love the Greater Cape Ann region and doing business locally?
The people of Cape Ann are so kind and welcoming. It’s such a scenic area with so much to offer from the arts, to outdoor activities, to interesting dining, and so on.
As someone doing business in this area, how has or how can the Chamber help your business?
The Chamber has so many opportunities to help small businesses, it’s hard to take advantage of them all! From their website to printed publications, to different councils and activities, there’s lots they do to get the word out for us.
